Building a Good Relationship With Your Custom Home Builder

Whether you’re building a custom home or remodeling an existing home, your relationship with your builder is important. In either circumstance, a strong relationship will make you both happier, as you will be spending a good amount of time together. And the odds are, with a better relationship, you’ll get better results. Here are a few thing you can do to build a good relationship with your custom home builder.

Tell your builder what he is doing right You do not have to be fake or over the top; but builders are proud of what they do; it is their job. They really appreciate any compliments you give on what they are working on. If they know you like what they are doing, they will want to continue working hard to create exactly what you want.

Clearly communicate about problems. If you are concerned or uneasy about anything, communicate with your builder. Let him know what is bothering you and try not to let your emotions come into that conversation. Concentrate on finding a solution for the problem and let your home builder fix whatever it is. You do not need to put anyone at fault, just work on sorting out the problem.

Communicate expectations clearly. Don’t assume your builder knows what your exact expectations are. Tell your builder what is and is not important to you. Just be clear about both:what you want and what you don’t want. That way, you are more likely to get the results you desire.

Let your builder do his job. Although you need to communicate what you want, it is your builder’s job to turn what you want into a reality. So, even though it is your house, your builder will know the best way to create what you want. So if you hired a quality builder, just let him do his job.

Say thank you. Even though building is his job, your builder is just like you. Hearing a thank you for a job well done, really brightens people’s day. It means a lot to your builder to know that you appreciate the work put in to your home. It keeps your custom home builder motivated and it encourages him to keep up the good work.
